With some tricks and good hair spray a artistic hair dresser can make a bun like that with reasonable long hair. I think this bun cannot be really heavy but/and of course vulnerable.I remember my girlfriend had once just over shoulder long hair and she could make a bun giving the impression she nearly had waist long hair (without any articifial hair pieces).
