max2, this is definitely the best player I was able to find:

gomplayer.com/main.html

It does what you want (adjustments, screen captures).

Also it plays all almost all formats including FLV.

Unlike VideoLan player it does require codecs installed BUT if there on missing it provides the link to the download page.
