It's actualy not that hard. Like Anya said, it doesn't hurt to whipe off the excess first.
But next, and this does make a great deal of difference, put shampoo on it BEFORE you do water! The heat from the water changes the consistency to that thick mess.
So shampoo on the area first, work it in well and you will see, it rinses out real easy after that. The shampoo seems to disolve it or atleast prevent it from becomming thicker and hard to remove.
