When she was a teenager in Nashville she encountered a woman cashier with floor length hair and she said I will never cut my hair again. She has made long hair her personal trademark for 50 years.

She has lost some length due to old age thinning (she's 68 yrs old now).

I saw her perform live in the late 70s and it was memorable.
